In his practice, Brussels Eye Doctors, located in Brussels, Belgium, he works in team with eight other ophthalmologists: Hilde DE LEENER, M.D., Doris COOLS M.D., Herlinde EBRAERT, M.D., Miriam ZELINKA, M.D., Wim HENDRIKS, M.D., Kamelia ILIEVA, M.D., Marianne VAN WINDEN M.D. and one plastic surgeon Arielle NEUPREZ, M.D.

The practice is equipped with the most advanced apparatus to ensure the best possible diagnosis: five topolyzers, two aberrometers (ray-tracing and wave-analyzer), one pachymeter, two contrast-sensitivity devices, one digitalized fluo-angiograph and an OCT scan (Optical Coherence Tomography), … .   

Since 2002 Dr. Vryghem has his own operating room at his practice. Since 2010, the practice is equipped with two operating theaters: a room for intraocular surgery and a laser room.

  Dr. Vryghem performs refractive surgery since 1988. Over time, he has acquired experience in radial keratotomy (RK), superficial excimer laser treatments : photorefractive keratotomy (PRK), phakic implantable lenses (Artisan and Artiflex) and refractive lens exchange (RLE). Since 1995 he performs refractive excimer laser treatments and he started LASIK in 1996.  Successively, he has worked with following excimer lasers: Lasersight (1195), Nidek EC 5000 (1996), WaveLight Alegretto 200 Hz (2003), WaveLight Eye-Q 400 Hz (2004), Schwind Amaris 750S 750 Hz (2011) and the following femtosecond lasers: Ziemer LDV (2006), Ziemer LDV in Crystalline version (2011). Dr. Vryghem has always chosen to be the first to buy the most modern and advanced equipment in to make the latest and most innovative technology available for his patients. Therefore, he decided in June 2011 to fully renew his laser platform. He bought a new excimer laser, the Schwind Amaris 750S to replace the WaveLight Allegretto Eye-Q 400. The Schwind Amaris 750S laser is the most advanced and innovative excimer laser that currently provides the highest accuracy and reliability in the field of refractive eye surgery and exeeds all other excimer lasers.

  Within the field of cataract surgery Dr. Vryghem was the first in Belgium in 1996 to perform cataract surgery under topical anesthesia (anaesthetic drops) and in 1997 to implant a multifocal intra-ocular lens. Dr. Vryghem currently focuses on micro-incision cataract surgery (MICS) and on the insertion of the latest multifocal lenses: tri-focal intra-ocular lenses (Physiol, Fine Vision) which provide a good distance, near and intermediate vision to patients.

 For the other ophthalmic services covered by the Brussels Eye Doctors team we also seek to apply the most efficient techniques.

 Dr. Vryghem actively participates in international (European and American) conferences and is often invited at national congresses abroad as a speaker or moderator. At the national level, as vice-president of the BSCRS (Belgian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) he has organized several congresses and live-surgeries. At the international level, Dr. Vryghem is the organizer of a worldwide expert meeting on the management of keratoconus (Current surgical options in the management of Keratoconus).

  Dr. Vryghem’s practice, Brussels Eye Doctors, has been selected as a reference centre by different organizations: WaveLight Betasite since 2003, Schwind Worldwide Ambassador since 2011. Dr. Vryghem is a clinical investigator for Ziemer (Femtosecond laser) and Physiol (multifocal intra-ocular lenses) and takes part in several clinical studies.

  After an  in-dept reorganisation and several audits by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance, Brussels Eye Doctors have obtained ISO-9001:2000 certifying in July 2006. Since June 2009 the practice has acquired the ISO-9001:2008 certification for the practice's Quality Management System.
